Click here to view The Evening Record article
dated January 29, 1918,
which tells of Louis Capozzi and the crew members off the U.S.S. Jupiter receiving a medal claiming that their ship was the first American vessel to run the German blockade off the coast of France.

The article also states that Louis Capozzi is
“a graduate from Hackensack Public Schools and for a time attended the High School.”

The way the statement is made shows that the High School was considered higher learning and not mandatory as we would think today.
